Jess loves grokking big systems challenges, like reimagining the future of higher ed with Stanford d.school (2025.stanford.edu), as much as she loves working individuals and teams to discover and articulate the sense of purpose that fuels their work.
As a Design Thinking practitioner, Jess she has over a decade of experience leading design work and equipping others through workshops, facilitation, and ongoing micro-learning opportunities. As an Experience Designer, she ignites new behaviors in individuals and teams, helping establish and nurture creative cultures within organizations and coaching her clients in sustaining new mindsets over time.
Jess teaches at Stanford University, with courses ranging from Human Values in Design for undergraduates, co-taught with David Kelley, to Entrepreneurial Studies for gifted high schoolers from around the globe. At IDEO, she focused on healthcare, organizational transformation, and social innovation work. Jess spearheaded the Design for Social Impact domain, which grew into IDEO.org, and helped jumpstart a series of open-source human-centered design toolkits. She went on to help launch the startup school African Leadership Academy in Johannesburg, building its flagship entrepreneurship program.
Teryn is an executive advisor focusing on strategy, people and culture. She works with organizations that are looking to develop and nurture internal innovation or leadership capabilities. She has deep experience guiding leaders and teams through strategic challenges through business model design, experience design, facilitation, and coaching.
Teryn draws on management consulting, design thinking, and social sciences to inspire innovative approaches and courageous action. She has worked internationally with executives and teams. Her clients include: Coca-Cola, Mozilla, Virgin Atlantic, Chevron, Toyota, Stanford University, even the IRS.
Teryn’s career has taken her from management consulting and organizational design at Accenture, to leadership development with global teams of high potentials, to advising CIOs and IT leaders on strategy and talent. Most recently, at Steelcase, Teryn used human-centered design to help organizations use the built environment to achieve business outcomes. She was also part of the core Innovation team, working to determine the company’s Innovation Strategy for the next 25 years.
Steph is a strategist and a storyteller. Her passion for communication stems from her belief that words can change the world. She has had the privilege of collaborating with many individuals and companies to create stories that communicate powerful ideas and inspire meaningful action.
Steph’s creative process is participatory and iterative. She places a high value on in-person working sessions where information and facts are transformed into ideas and messages through a variety of methods. She draws from principles of design thinking, rhetoric, and literary narrative structure to help budding speakers create thought leadership platforms, startups get funded, and small teams in large organizations spark significant change to company culture and process.
Steph spent six years at Duarte, inc. in client services, project management, and as a content developer on the creative team. Her experience with all aspects of the business has given her a broad range of experience with what it takes to create and deliver extraordinary stories.
